Mr Mario Petrou was appointed as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at The Royal Brompton Hospital, London, in 2002. He moved to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford in 2011 and began his practice at the Oxford Private Heart & Lung Centre in April 2012. Mr Petrou offers a wide repertoire of adult cardiac surgery in his practice. This includes coronary artery by-pass surgery (on and off- pump), complex aortic root surgery, the Ross operation, aortic valve and mitral valve repair techniques, aortic aneurysm repair, Marfan’s disease surgery and complex re-do surgeries. He also has a background experience of treating patients with cardiac failure (transplantation and mechanical assist devices).

He has consistently performed to a high level throughout his career as shown by his excellent surgeon-specific mortality and outcome results which are available in the public domain. He places great emphasis on pre-operative assessment, meticulous technical surgery and assiduous post - operative care, and believes that all three components are essential in order to obtain the best results for the patients. Having worked with some world-renowned heart surgeons including, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub , Mr Petrou’s career has been influenced by some of the best in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
